Dinosaurs
The last couple of classes we talked about companies and how they
competed with each other with the web coming out. It was really interesting to
hear that the ones who made it after the dot.com bomb were the ones that made
it and now are some of the most powerful companies that we have, like Amazon
and Apple. Aol who now is even rare to see an email from it was one of the
leaders a couple of years ago, and because of how fast technology changes it is
not a big player anymore. Companies adopting change is what made them stay
relevant and survive. It was also interesting how many companies like Microsoft
were not interested changing to get more integrated and that could have been
the end for them but still they got out of the dot.com crisis and are one of
the biggest companies. Making so much money that even if they stopped now they
would still be making money. So many companies becoming extinct like the
dinosaurs was a great way to comparison, also on how slow and primitive they
were. It was also interesting to see how so many of the companies that catered
to one specific thing but as time has gone on we see companies like Apple that
has expanded their work from just creating personal computers, and Amazon
changing from only books to many other products even making their own food market.
The changes many companies went through and the new companies created to fit
the market was fascinating to hear about.
